While collecting furniture for my new house, I decided that I wanted to do something fun with the nightstand in my bedroom—like paint it. My mom found this one for just $30, and I think it’ll be perfect!
So now the question is, what color? Or colors? I initially thought I would do something in gray with a crazy drawer pull, or a dark green to go with my bedding. But when I saw this piece in person, I realized that two colors might go a long way in highlighting all the detail.

Fun, right? Right now I’m leaning toward a dark green and cream combination, but I really have no idea.
At first, I planned to get those handles the heck off my nightstand. But once I cleaned them off a little, I realized I kind of liked their look. So now I’m thinking about just spray painting those nickel and calling it a day.
Oh, and of course I’ll refer to my favorite DIY blogging family’s advice for painting furniture—if I can ever decide on the colors. Any suggestions?

Great find. My first instinct would be to strip it and stain it. There is a lot of character and detail in the piece that you may lose if you paint it. You could highlight the grooves on the side of the front and wood inlay on the bottom cabinet with the amount of stain you use. Or you could even glaze it. If painting is the way and you want it to stand out, I’d go with two colors and dark green could work well depending on the rest of your room. Whatever you do, keep the hardware…it helps define the nightstand. Good luck!
